Blepharoplasty

Eyelid Surgery

Our experienced plastic surgeon is renowned for their beautiful results with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Signs of age and fatigue can often manifest around the eyes, making us look older than we really are. Eyelid surgery can take years off your appearance by reducing bagginess and puffiness, smoothing out wrinkles, and giving you a more youthful and refreshed look. This procedure can also help patients who may be having trouble with their field of vision because of excess skin over the eyes.

Customized to target the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both, blepharoplasty can offer patients a number of aesthetic benefits for a refreshed, more youthful appearance. More specifically, eyelid surgery can often help:

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery:

  • Smooth sagging or wrinkled skin in the upper and/or lower eyelids
  • Reduce puffiness or bagginess in the eye region
  • Eliminate pockets of fat in the upper and/or lower eyelids
  • Remove excess eyelid skin
  • Improve dark circles under the lower eyelids

In addition to cosmetic enhancement, blepharoplasty can also be medically beneficial, the procedure can often be performed to excise drooping, excess skin that may be partially or significantly blocking one’s field of vision.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure:

Upper and lower eyelid surgery are considered two completely different procedures.

For upper blepharoplasty, tiny incisions are concealed in the natural creases of the eyelid, and excess skin and fat is removed as needed.

For lower blepharoplasty, a small incision is made in the natural crease below the lower lashes, and excess muscle, skin, and fat tissues are removed.

In some instances, fat is redistributed throughout the region to help diminish bulging and/or puffiness around the eyes. Additionally, sagging skin can be tightened for optimal results.

Eyelid surgery can be performed under local anesthetic or sedation, depending on each individual patient.

On average, the procedure generally takes about one to two hours to complete, but this will depend on whether blepharoplasty was performed on the upper eyelid or lower eyelid, or both.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery and Results:

Recovery from eyelid surgery will depend on whether you have the procedure performed on the upper or lower lids, or both in combination.

  • Most patients can expect some temporary swelling and bruising in the eyelid areas; however, this usually dissipates quickly. Your eyes will be lubricated with a medicinal cream following surgery.
  • Most patients are able to resume normal daily routines within just a few days following the procedure.
  • Initial results from eyelid surgery are immediately noticeable, although it may take a few weeks for the final outcome to become apparent. In the end, blepharoplasty can often help you take years off your appearance with beautiful, natural-looking results.
